Simpler online appointment request form coming on 9th November

We are introducing a range of improvements to our systems and processes, which will make it easier for patients to access services at the practice. The changes will begin to go live from 9th November 2026 and will bring a number of improvements for both patients and staff.

One of the main changes patients will notice is an improved online appointment request form. The new form has been designed to be simple, clear and easy to complete.

Dr Nick Hopkins

GP Partner at the practice, Dr Nick Hopkins, said, "Over the coming weeks we will be introducing a number of improvements to the way we work and how we communicate with patients. While the new online appointment request form will be one of the most visible changes, it is part of a wider programme of updates taking place across the practice to improve patient experience and make our processes more efficient."

Other improvements that patients will notice include:

  • Being able to book blood tests, B12 injections, cervical screening, ECG and INR appointments, where appropriate, through the practice website
  • Being able to request appointments via the NHS App
  • New check in screens when arriving at the practice
  • Improved patient information screens in waiting rooms

Patients will also now receive updates about their appointments and other routine messages from the practice by email, rather than by text. This change will improve the quality of information that can be shared with patients, as email allows for clearer, more detailed information, including links to further advice and support when needed. It also reduces the costs associated with text messaging.

Dr Hopkins said, “We know that some patients might need help with setting up and using an email address and they can get support from our Digital Health Team to do this. We recognise that using email is not possible for everyone however. Patients who are unable to use email will continue to receive messages by text or telephone calls, and correspondence will be sent by post where needed. We will continue to call all patients who need a same day appointment to confirm their appointment time with us.”

Patients are asked to make sure the practice has their current email address on record. The quickest and easiest way to add or update an email address is via the NHS App.

Alternatively, patients can use the ‘change of contact details’ form on the our website

Help is available to patients who need it at the various Digital Health sessions held by the practice each week.

Dr Hopkins added, "Whenever significant changes are introduced, there is naturally a period of adjustment while new processes become established. Our teams have been working hard to prepare for these changes, but patients may notice some things take a little longer than usual during the transition period.”

“Patients may also notice that routine appointments are not available to book as far in advance as they usually are. This temporary change will help our teams manage the transition and ensure services continue to run as smoothly as possible. Patients requiring urgent care will continue to be seen and prioritised in the usual way.”

“We are confident the improvements will bring long term benefits for our patients and our teams, and would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding while we adapt to new ways of working.”
