Empowering Patients With The NHS App

Frome Medical Practice is reminding patients that downloading and using the NHS App is a simple and secure way of managing their health care. The NHS App supports patients to order repeat prescriptions, view their GP health record, receive reminders and messages and much more, including booking some routine appointments. The NHS App is free to download and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Proxy access is an additional feature of the NHS App that more patients are now using. Sometimes referred to as a linked profile, proxy access allows trusted friends or loved ones to support those who need help with using the services provided within the NHS App, whether it’s a young child, elderly parent or friend with complex needs.

Will Palmer, Digital Community Connector at Frome Medical Practice, said, “The NHS App continues to change the way patients manage their health, offering a simple, secure, and convenient way to access essential services from the comfort of home. From ordering repeat prescriptions to viewing medical records, the app puts control in the hands of our patients, helping them stay connected and informed. Proxy access means more patients can be supported with this.”

“Proxy access is available when both the patient and their proxy are registered with us at Frome Medical Practice. This ensures continuity of care and compliance with NHS security standards. Before access is granted, certain identity and security checks must be completed to protect patient confidentiality and ensure the correct procedures are followed.”

To request proxy access, patients can apply directly through their NHS App by selecting the ‘Manage Health Services for Others’ option on the home screen. The team from Frome Medical Practice then gets in touch to complete the process.

Steven James, Digital Health Connector at the practice, said

“We’ve been working hard as a practice to close the gap in digital healthcare, by supporting patients with their use of online technology. But we know there are some patients for whom using the NHS App is really difficult and proxy access is one way we can support these patients. We’d encourage any patients interested in finding out more or who wish to set up proxy access to get in touch.”Insert important content here.

Patients can find out more about the NHS App and the digital health support offered by Frome Medical Practice on the practice website. The website also includes details of various digital health drop-in sessions that take place each week, where patients can seek support and advice about digital health technology, including using the NHS App and setting up proxy access.
