Volunteers needed to support pancreatic cancer awareness project
Frome Medical Practice is inviting local people to join a volunteer morning to help create a community art installation that will raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and remember lives lost to the disease.
The practice has received funding from the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance, to support a pancreatic cancer awareness campaign, designed to help more people recognise the signs and symptoms of this often difficult to diagnose disease.
Following a successful volunteer event held earlier this year, where hundreds of pairs of shoes and trainers were laced with purple ribbon, the next stage needs volunteers to help cut out butterflies, which will be used in an art installation being created at the practice by artist Caroline Rudge. The butterflies have been designed by Caroline and will form part of a visual tribute to those who have been affected by pancreatic cancer. The event also offers a chance for people to come together, meet others in the community, and support this local project.
“We were overwhelmed by the support for our recent ‘lace up’ event and are hoping the community will once again get behind this important project”, said Karen Creffield, Managing Partner at the practice. “Each butterfly will play a part in bringing the installation to life, while helping to spark conversations about pancreatic cancer and the importance of recognising potential warning signs of this disease.”
Caroline added, “Every butterfly cut out on the day will help create a powerful display that raises awareness of pancreatic cancer and honours those whose lives have been affected by it. We would love to welcome anyone who can spare some time to come along and get involved.”
Volunteers do not need any special skills, just a willingness to help. Refreshments will be provided and there will be plenty of opportunity for a chat, while contributing to the project.
The volunteer session takes place on Saturday 26th September 2026 from 9am to midday and people are asked to sign up to let the practice know they can take part.
