Free Workshops for Parents and Carers
Workshops offered to parents to support children’s mental health
Young Somerset, in partnership with Frome Medical Practice, is offering two free non-clinical workshops for parents and carers. This follows workshops which took place earlier this year that were well received by parents who attended.
The topics of the two workshops are ‘anxiety and low mood’ and ‘resilience’. Each workshop is 1.5 hours long, running from 5:30pm to 7pm, and will be facilitated by members of Young Somerset’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Team. The sessions are adult only, allowing a safe space where parents and carers can share their experiences and offer peer support. Workshops are suitable for parents of both primary and secondary age children.
The sessions are intended to help parents and carers feel more confident in supporting their children’s emotional health and wellbeing. Parents and carers can attend one or both workshops, depending on the support they feel they need.

The ‘anxiety and low mood’ workshop takes place on Thursday 25th September and will look at the signs and symptoms of anxiety and low mood, hints and tips, do’s and don’ts and will give advice on when to seek professional advice. The session is intended to be interactive ,with parents and carers sharing their experiences of what helps and what hinders their child’s emotional wellbeing. The ‘resilience’ workshop, on Thursday 9th October, looks at why resilience and emotional intelligence are important, how they can be fostered and what might get in the way of children and young people being able to cope with what life throws at them. This is another interactive session with parents and carers reflecting on their own experiences of dealing with stress and what helps and hinders resilience in children and young people. The workshop will also look at when you may need to seek further support and will consider the importance of looking after our own emotional health and wellbeing.
At both workshops, there will also be the opportunity to signpost to other services at Young Somerset and to outside organisations, where appropriate.
If you are interested in attending one or both of the workshops please contact Wellbeing@youngsomerset.org.uk where you can sign up or find out more.
