Are you due or overdue your Cervical Screen (Smear Test)?
We are currently gearing ourself up in preparation for Cervical Screening Awareness Week, which takes place between 15th and 21st June.
Coronavirus and Cervical Screening
Coronavirus has changed a great many things for us, but the continuation of the cervical screening programme and our plans for Cervical Screening Awareness Week continue as normal.
Throughout the period of lockdown we have been stressing to our patients how important it is that they do not miss or delay a cervical screening,’ explains our Senior Partner, Dr Helen Kingston.
‘Having a smear test is one of the most important tests a woman can have to protect against cervical cancer, which can occur at any age. This year there have obviously been other medical issues around which have had an impact on all of us, but even before the impact of the coronavirus outbreak my professional colleagues and myself were becoming increasingly concerned at the number of young women who were not attending for a screening.’
If you are due your smear test then making an appointment is simple, and attending the practice is as safe as it can be during the coronavirus pandemic.
To make an appointment call 01373 301301 (it is generally quieter if you call after 2pm) and speak to one of our Care Navigators so that an appointment can be fixed for a time convenient to you.
Patients attending the practice for any appointment are currently being asked to wear a face covering - more information on how to wear face coverings properly is available here.
Special Saturday Morning Cervical Screening Clinic
As part of Cervical Screening Awareness Week we will be holding a special Saturday morning clinic for women who are due or overdue their cervical screen.
The clinic will take place on Saturday 20th June between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
Booking is essential for this Saturday clinic. Please call us on 01373 301301 to book your appointment.
We are, unfortunately, unable to see any patients who are currently ‘shielding’ at this special Saturday clinic. If you are shielding and are due your appointment you are very welcome to attend at normal clinic times (Monday to Friday, 8am - 6.30pm. Please call us on 01373 301301 to book your appointment and let us know you are shielding so we can see you in the area of the practice we have set aside for shielding patients.
If you have symptoms of coronavirus....
If you or someone you live with develops symptoms of coronavirus (a raised temperature, new continuous cough, loss of sense of smell or taste) then please contact us and we can rearrange your cervical screening appointment.
