‘Caring about Equality’ for unpaid carers

We are inviting unpaid carers to visit the practice during Carers Week and find out about the support available to them. Carers Week takes place from 9th to 15th June 2025 and the practice has organised a series of drop-in events where advice and information will be available to unpaid carers.

This year’s theme for Carers Week, ‘Caring about Equality’, will focus on highlighting the challenges and inequalities faced by unpaid carers across the UK, calling for a fairer society where they have access to greater support. The practice offers help to unpaid carers in a number of ways to try and ensure they have access to support they might need.

Carers are welcome to come along to the practice to find out more and meet members of the team and local support organisations at the following times:

Meet Frome Carers Group

Monday 9th June 2025 from 10am to 12:30pm

Meet Frome Carers Group and one of the practice Health Connections Team in the main atrium at the practice. Find out about Frome Carers Group and the support they offer, as well as how the practice helps unpaid carers. The team can also signpost you to other organisations and services for support.

Meet Health Connectors

  • Tuesday 10th June 2025 from 2pm to 3pm,
  • Thursday 12th June 2025 from 9:30am to 11:30am
  • Friday 13th June 2025 from 2pm to 3pm

Drop in to the practice Live Well Room (opposite the Information Desk) and speak to one of the Health Connectors, from our social prescribing and health coach team. The team wants to listen to what is important to you as a carer and discuss how we can support carers, including signposting you to organisations and services for support.

Meet KeyRing Charity

Wednesday 11th June from 10am to midday

Drop in to the practice Live Well Room (opposite the Information Desk) and meet with the KeyRing charity.  KeyRing provides individual support and group meet ups in Somerset for people who have a learning disability, autism or need support with their mental health. They are also available to talk to carers of people with learning disabilities and autism.

Meet Abi James, our Carers Champion

Friday 13th June from 11am to midday

Drop in to the practice Live Well Room (opposite the Information Desk) between 11am and midday and meet Abi James, our Carers Champion. Abi can talk to you about how you can register with the practice as an unpaid carer, and the benefits of doing this, and can also highlight other support available.

There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. Despite contributing an estimated £184 billion to the UK economy each year, many carers feel undervalued and unsupported.

Abi James is our Carers Champion at the practice and said, “Carers Week is a vital opportunity for our community to come together and recognise the important contribution unpaid carers make to support some of the most vulnerable in our society, and raise awareness of the inequalities carers face, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, and poor mental and physical health. Our plans for Carers Week will support carers by raising awareness of how we support carers at the practice and the wider support available to them, both locally and nationally.”

“If you’re unable to attend any of the drop in sessions taking place at the practice, please visit the practice website and search ‘carers’ and you can find out more about how we can support you. This page also includes information about registering with us as an unpaid carer, which I’d really encourage you to do.”

More information about how the practice can support unpaid carers is available on our website
