Carers Week 2020
Carers Week takes place from 8th - 14th June this year and is an annual event to help highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and to recognise the contribution they make to families and communities. It's also an opportunity to help raise awareness with people who might not otherwise identify as carers and therefore aren't accessing often much-needed support.
The theme for 2020 is 'Making Caring Visible', chosen at a time when carers are facing new challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. More people are taking on caring responsibilities for family, friends and neighbours who are disabled, ill or older and now need support.
Caring impacts on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work should not be underestimated, and carers are facing even more difficult circumstances this year. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, its challenges should not be underestimated. Caring without the right information and support can be tough.
Carers UK are hosting a variety of online sessions and have a huge amount of rescourses and support services available to carers. You can find out more here the support Carers UK offer here.
Here at Frome Medical Practice we do as much as possible to support carers. We have a designated Carers Champion, Claire, who manages our register of unpaid carers, provide information and signposts to the many brilliant support services available locally and nationally. You can find out more about adding your name to the register and how we can support you on our Carers page of the website.
