If You’re a Veteran
Please let us know if you’ve served in the Armed Forces. This helps us:
- Record your veteran status in your medical notes (with your permission)
- Offer tailored support and treatment
- Refer you to specialist NHS services when needed
You can speak to any member of our team or complete our online form to let us know.
Our Commitment to Veterans
As part of our patient charter, you can expect:
- To be asked if you’ve served in the UK Armed Forces (regular or reservist).
- To have your service history recorded confidentially, with your consent.
- To be offered an appointment with our clinical lead for veteran health, who understands military life and related health issues.
- To be referred to veteran-specific NHS services where appropriate.
- To receive priority treatment for service-related conditions, based on clinical need.
- To be supported in making informed decisions about your care.
- To have your veteran status shared with other services (with your consent), so you don’t need to repeat your story.
- To receive support for your family and carers if they’re affected by your health.
- To have any concerns or complaints listened to and investigated.
Getting the Most from Your GP
- Register early: Don’t wait until you’re unwell to register with a GP.
- Share your military health records: If you’ve recently left the Armed Forces, give your GP any paperwork from your military medical centre.
- Tell your GP you’ve served: This helps us understand your needs and refer you to the right services.
Confidentiality
We understand that sharing your service history can feel personal. Please know that all NHS staff follow strict confidentiality rules. Your information will only be shared with your consent and when it helps your care.
More help and support for Veterans
You can find more information about local and national services for veterans on our Support for Veterans page.
These organisations offer practical and emotional support, even if they don’t provide healthcare directly. They can help with housing, finances, mental health, and staying connected with others who have served.
