Flu and Covid Vaccinations

What does Frome Medical Practice offer?

The flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Frome Medical Practice offers the flu vaccination to eligible groups of patients each autumn. Where possible, we will text this patients to invite them to book their appointments. We will also try to call patients who we do not hold a mobile phone number for.

Please follow our social media accounts or check our news pages for updates on the seasonal flu vaccination programme.

Patient information regarding the 2024 flu and COVID vaccines

Can flu vaccines and COVID vaccines be given at the same time?

Yes, getting a flu vaccine and COVID vaccine at the same visit is recommended if you are eligible and the timing for each vaccine is right.

Is it safe to get a flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine at the same time?

Studies conducted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic supported the safety of getting a flu vaccine and COVID vaccine at the same visit. For example, one study showed that people who got a flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time were slightly more likely to have reactions including fatigue, headache, and muscle ache than people who only got a COVID-19 vaccine, but those reactions were mostly mild and went away quickly.

Why should I get a flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine at the same visit?

This might be more convenient than having two separate visits. Getting both vaccines at the same time if you are due for both is recommended.

If I decide to wait between getting my flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine, is there a recommended waiting time between vaccines?

No, there’s no recommended waiting time between getting a flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine. The recommendation is to have both at the same time.

I have recently been unwell - can I still have my vaccinations?

If you have, or think you have, COVID wait until you're feeling better before having the vaccine. You should also wait if you have a high temperature or feel very unwell with any illness.

If you’ve recently recovered from COVID, there is no need to wait to get the vaccine.
