Digital Champions

What is a digital champion?

Our work to support people to get online is made possible with the input of volunteers. We call these volunteers digital champions.

Digital champions offer 1:1 support to people who need a little help to do simple online tasks such as sending emails, accessing health services or using social media for example.

A digital champion is either a volunteer in the community or a consultant employed by Frome Medical Practice to support people with their digital needs. They can answer a number of questions, for example, "How do I download an app?", "How can I stay secure on the internet?", "How do I video call my friend/family/GP?", "How do I shop online?", "How do I fill in this government form?".

Digital champions are available (free of charge) within the community to support you, or people you may know, that struggle with the digital world, whether that is due to financial circumstances, now owning or having access to a device, not knowing how to use a device or being a little scared of using a device you own.

You can make one-to-one appointments with our digital champions or come along to our drop-in Digital Cafe at the Cheese & Grain every Thursday from 10:00-11:30. Click here for more information about help to get online.

How to volunteer as a digital champion

Digital champions are volunteers within the local community and we always need more people to support our work to help people get online.

Spark IT is the organisation reponsible for coordinating digital inclusion in Somerset and so they are the organisation that is recruiting a team of volunteer digital champions.
